Recruitment

FYC’s Senior Choir singing at the Minack Theatre in August 2022

community engagement officer

Fixed term to 31 December 2025, with planned extension into 2026 (subject to funding).

£12.60 per hour for 10 hours per week during term time. Remotely based, with attendance at rehearsals and concerts on a planned basis.

Farnham Youth Choir (FYC) is an internationally award-winning choir that supports children to achieve extraordinary things through a shared love of singing. We’re a volunteer-led charity, based in Farnham, Surrey, with more than 100 children singing across three choirs, and we’re looking for a Community Engagement Officer to support our work across schools and local communities to build our reputation, increase singer numbers and support our teams.

About the job

Reporting to our Operations Manager, you’ll be working with our members, parents and carers, Trustees and local communities to continue building positive relationships and the profile of FYC across our catchment area. Duties include organising parent meetings, liaising with schools for our free workshop offerings, organising our annual Singing Sprees and managing our social media accounts. Specifically, you will:

  • Support existing members, parents and carers

  • Manage singer recruitment activities

  • Manage the choir’s Bursary Scheme

  • Help to build the profile of FYC in the community

  • Attend FYC rehearsals on Wednesday evenings once per half term and all FYC-promoted concerts (usually three per year)

About you

You’ll be confident with managing your own time and capable of liaising with groups including FYC staff, trustees, volunteers and parents/carers. Proactive and responsive, you’ll need experience in building and managing strong internal and external relationships, and a good head for organisation and communication - both written and face-to-face.

You should be comfortable with technology, including using Google Drive, Google Docs and Google Sheets. A familiarity with social media management is preferable, although training can be given. Ideally, you should have some experience either in music or education administration.

How to apply

Please apply by sending your CV to jobs@fyc.org.uk, along with a covering letter stating why you would like to be chosen for this role. Interviews will be held at the start of September, to start as soon as possible, and we reserve the right to interview earlier for particularly strong candidates. FYC will need to carry out an Enhanced DBS check before the successful candidate can take up the position.

This role is as an employee of Farnham Youth Choir, although suitable applications from self-employed candidates will be considered.
