About Auditions

We aim to make the audition process friendly and helpful, and hopefully an enjoyable experience!  We want to find out about your current ability but are also looking for potential and readiness to learn.

JUNIOR Choir auditions

  • When and where are the auditions and how long will it last?
An informal audition will be arranged either after a rehearsal or on auditions day in June. Please register below or email joinachoir@fyc.org.uk.

  • What happens in the audition?
You will be asked to sing some simple vocal exercises to discover whether you are a high or low singer (we need both!).

  • Can parents stay during the auditions?
There is a room for parents to wait during the rehearsal and while your child auditions. Members of the FYC team and other parents will be available for you to chat with.

  • When will I hear the result of my audition?
You will either know when you leave the audition if you have a place in the Junior Choir or you will receive an email soon afterwards.

  • What happens if I’m accepted?
Following your successful audition, you can begin rehearsals on Wednesdays at The United Reformed Church, South Street, Farnham, GU9 7QU from 5.15pm – 6.35pm.

SENIOR CHOIR AUDITIONS

  • Where and when are the auditions?
If you attend an open rehearsal and if you would like to join the choir, we will arrange an informal audition with the conductor. Please register below or email joinachoir@fyc.org.uk.

  • What happens in the audition?
You will be asked to sing some simple vocal exercises to discover whether you are a high or low singer (we need both!).  There will also be some ear tests (similar to aural tests in graded exams) and some simple sight reading.

  • Do I need to prepare a piece and will there be an accompanist?
You do not need to prepare a piece. One of the conductors will teach you the vocal exercises and play the piano.

  • Can parents stay during the auditions?
There is a room for parents to wait during the rehearsal and while your child auditions. Members of the FYC team and other parents will be available for you to chat with.

  • When will I hear the results of my audition?
If you’ve auditioned for the Senior Choir will know by the evening if you have a place.
