Senior Choir Uniform
Farnham Youth Choir sings at an extremely high standard and it is important that the choir looks as professional as it sounds. A good quality ‘uniform’ is essential to complete the whole image.
Choir members will provide their own ‘uniform’ to allow a certain degree of self-expression. However, to maintain the level of professionalism required by this world class choir, there are a set of rules that must be adhered to, so the look remains coherent.
An all black outfit.
The set of clothes used for concerts must be used solely for the choir to avoid them getting scruffy.
Must be floor length – very smart, straight-leg trousers, skirts or dresses.
No shiny material: we recommend polyester jersey for skirts and dresses as this is crease resistant. Cotton jersey is to be avoided as it fades quickly and requires ironing. (Please consider how clothes will travel on tour).
Sleeves must be below the elbow, necklines must be fairly narrow and not more than 5cms lower than the clavicle. See examples, below.
The overall look must be very smart and professional.
No t-shirts, jeans, jeggings or leggings
Shoes should be either polished black leather school-type shoes (the plainer, the better - not trainer style) to be worn with trousers or black leather ballet-style pumps (not patent, please) to be worn with skirts or dresses.
This will allow choir members to choose an outfit that shows their personality, but which is also smart and professional.
We will be providing accessories that will be used to add colour.

The choir also has an informal uniform for tour and occasional other events. It consists of an embroidered purple t-shirt and a sapphire blue hoodie. The cost of these is included in the new member pack and singers will agree sizes at a rehearsal early on in the term. Your singer will also need a pair of smart black trousers (straight-leg, not jeans or leggings) to wear with their t-shirt on less formal occasions. Please contact the uniform volunteer on senioruniform@fyc.org.uk with any questions.
Please contact Liz Chapman (info@fyc.org.uk) if you have financial concerns. The Bursary Scheme has some flexibility to help with uniform, if needed.
Alt text: Dresses can be round or v-neck, as long as necklines are not much wider, or lower than this diagram. Sleeves must be below the elbow, but they can also be full-length. Tops or shirts can be fitted or loose. Trousers should be straight-leg and full-length - they should touch shoes at the hem. Shoes should be plain, black leather, polished before every performance. Coloured accessories are issued at concerts.
